Hi there, and welcome to "Paralysis Shriek", a little blog dedicated to horror movie reviews! I know, I know, you're probably thinking, "Aren't there enough of those already?", and you're probably right. While horror (and the occasional non-horror) movies of all types will have a home here, ranging from slashers, to the supernatural, and just about everything in between, we will be focusing on the more obscure offerings from the genre, ranging from the '60s up through the present day. Some of them are obscure for a reason (they suck), while others were simply ahead of their time.
Reviews will start posting on October 1st. Typically, I will post one review per week. But since October is the birth month of Halloween, and the biggest horror-themed month of the entire year, I'll be putting up one review per DAY throughout the entire month! Think of it as kind of a "Grand Opening" of sorts. I also think the variety of films offered throughout the month will give you a better understanding of what to expect here, right off the bat.
So we've discussed what you WILL see here, so now let's take a look at what you shouldn't expect to see: While I enjoy extreme cinema, and love some blood and guts, I am absolutely not interested in gore movies that have absolutely no artistic merit. Like Faces of Death, the August Underground series, Slaughtered Vomit Dolls, etc. Movies that are made solely to disgust. Of course, sometimes "artistic merit" can be subjective, with many people arguing that movies like Cannibal Holocaust and Salo have no point, or are only out to shock; the former has been considered a forefather to the sudden "found footage" craze, while the latter was shot by an otherwise well-regarded director. I may not like films like that (both were incredibly hard to watch), but I can at least respect their existence, and they at least have more to say than "watch my friend and I mutilate this woman for an hour." I also tend to stay away from direct-to-video junk. That's just a personal preference, and not an absolute rule; just don't expect reviews for those to pop up very often, if that's your kind of movie.
I may mess with the format (frequency of posts, kinds of posts, etc.) to cater to my interests and to keep things fresh, and I'll definitely be changing the color scheme and set-up as we get closer to October. But just wanted to give you a heads up on what to expect! While I have massive queue lists of movies set up from Netflix and the local library of movies I want to review, as well as a decent-sized collection at home, I'm always looking for unique or hard-to-find ones, so I'm open to your suggestions--just leave them in the comments section! It might take me a while to get around to them, and I can't guarantee I will be interested in every suggestion, but if it sounds good, and I can get my hands on it, I'll eventually get to it.
